Tom Latane' uses top and bottom swages or bottom swage if is has a flat
back to rough the piece and then a lot of filing.
Watched him sharpen a chisel with a grinder. It was a hand crank
grinder he mounted in a vise. No power tools for him
Took a spatula class from him
We used 1 1/2 X 1/4 X 10" mild steel
Takes him less than an hour to forge and about an hour to file
Took us a couple of days to look fair.

Lots of hand filing and polishing after the rough stuff is
finished.
Would it be roughly forged and then the flat shapes filed? Or is it a
lot of swage work, with male & female dies to match?
Has someone made something like this before?
