Aubrey,
If you live someplace that your neighbors are that nice, don't even think of
moving.

Mickey,
Before I moved back to the country 8 or 9 years ago, I had my coal forge set
up beside my garage in a modest blue collar neighborhood with houses less
than 20' apart. When I would start up the forge (lots of smoke) a neighbor
or two would often come by to make sure my house wasn't on fire. But, no
one ever complained or called the cops. Mostly they either ignored me or
came by to watch. If they stayed long enough, I always tried to send them
home with a little trinket.

Aubrey

Aubrey,
Thanks for the recommendation. Recently a bunch of amateur founders got
together on the Peninsula for a casting party. I got to watch a coal forge
in action. My suspicions about their unsuitability for suburbia were
confirmed, but must admit that running the hand crank was a blast :-)
