Years ago I towed a friends triumph spifire home.  It was missing real 
bad then just gave out altogether.  I opened the hood and found the 
distributor in two pieces.   The advance weight springs had given out 
and the advance weights had rubbed against the case long enough to 
cleanly cut it in two. I couldn't have gotten it cleaner with a parting 
tool.
