Minor quibble, but I think what you mean to say is "Therefore I'll act
as if I believe". Covering your bets on something physical works; it
doesn't often work in the metaphysical realm.

You can make propane more efficient in the same fashion. Instead of
having just one line from your regulator to your jet (assuming a
carburetor instead of a blower), you run one line to the jet with a ball
valve (a quick lever shutoff valve) in it. In parallel with the ball
valve, run a line with a needle valve in it. With the ball valve off and
a warmed up forge, set the needle valve to the lowest flame your forge
will run stably at. When you open the ball valve, the forge runs full
blast. Close it and it stoppers down to minimum.
