Exactly my point Pete.

There're few things that'll give a person a feeling of 
confidence than being able to do good work with little 
or nothing. I don't know of many professions(persuits, 
etc.) that have the same degree of bootstrapability as 
blacksmithing.

The story of my most successful improvised smithy is in 
a following post.

Love the guitar story. The times that kind of thing 
happened to me are what drives me. May your great good 
fortune carry on throughout your life.
