Morning Lon:

I would've left a comment but I don't think I'm joining
Yahoo 360, I "belong" to enough blog, podcast, etc.
sites already. <grin>

I will be checking back every now and then though, I'm
interested in how the butterfly turns out, I love that
kind of stuff. Bummer about the blade but it happens
eh?

My second student Lindsey (general smithing, I'm no
bladesmith) wanted to make a smallish utility knife as
her tool steel project and she'd put in so much effort
and learned so much so quickly I agreed. She forged out
a sweet little blade about 5 1/5" long x 1 1/8" deep
with a full tang, from new 5160. Everything had gone
very smoothly till we hardened it and I heard it cut
loose in the quench. Just the tiniest of tinks was all
there was to be heard. <sigh>

Surprise of surprises it failed about an inch up the
tang, not at the choil! Lindsey already had plans to
leave the state so I didn't have a chance to repair it
but she found the right person in Virginia and it now
has a sheath and gets used when she's in the bush.

Good luck with the interview Lon, may it bring good
things.
