========================
Internet security experts recently issued warnings about a major computer worm, known as Blackworm or Mywife, that is infecting unprotected Windows Personal Computers (PCs) worldwide. This worm is a significant threat to unprotected PCs because it is scheduled to delete many types of files from infected systems on February 3.
Additional Actions You Can Take
The worm is spread via a virus-generated email that contains an infected attachment. The subject headings, which vary, are often inappropriate in nature and try to entice users to open the attached file. If you receive any suspicious email:
-- NEVER launch (i.e., open or double-click) an attachment to a suspicious email
-- NEVER click on a link in a suspicious email
-- Delete all suspicious email immediately
-- Never reply to a suspicious email.
Is Your Home PC Protected?
Blackworm does not discriminate. It infects home computing environments as well as corporate networks. IS recommends that you follow your standard procedures to ensure that your home PC is running up-to-date anti-virus software. If you have concerns about your home PC's protection, you may want to perform a back-up of important data files.
