Hey, I don't disagree w/ that.
It's just hotter than mig. Sometimes you burn up small things w/ stick.

I'm sure EVERYONE else will disagree with me,
especially Dan Tull, but I would go with an AC/DC
stick welder.  The reasons are:

 - If you want to go from welding low carbon steel to
some other application (tool steel, high tensile, cast
iron, etc.) it's a lot easier to switch an electrode
than it is to switch that big spool of wire.

 - I've seen more bad MIG welds than I've seen bad
stick welds from beginners due to lack of penetration.

 - If you go with the stick welder, you can add a high
frequency generator on later and you have a TIG
welder.
