Little? Have you looked at a map recently? Alaska has duck ponds bigger than 
NJ. That must be it; there's just too much room to be easy to find us.

Of course if you stand still long enough Alaskan geology is likely to come 
find you. Alaska as a matter of fact is getting bigger as we speak. <grin>

Mt. St. Augustine erupted explosively, twice around 5:00 yesterday morning. 
Ash is headed away from Ancorage but as this volcano tends to stay active 
for 3-6 months per eruptive cycle we'll get it sooner or later. St. 
Augustine is about 170-180 miles south south west of Anchorage and maybe 
another 20+ miles farther from our place.

Still, (as loathe as I am to do so. <grin>)I gotta cut you a LITTLE slack, 
at least you know Alaska is part of the US. A disturbing number of people 
don't.
