One thing to think about when you put a gate to control the air to your forge is to put the gate on the inlet to the blower if you can.  Then, when you close the gate, the fan runs in a vacuum, thus saving energy.  Conversely, if you put it on the outlet - like we all have - the fan runs full out against maximum resistance and uses your electricity.
