Definitely vague, since I was taught to solder using oxy-acet ;-)

Some definitions can be pretty variable, even though there may have, at one 
point a fixed dividing line. For example, the dividing line between sheet 
metal and plate metal is definite, but for most of us,, we can get by with 
describing thick sheet, or thin plate, when we need metal in that border 
area. I run into it in cooking, too- many things that the marketers describe 
as a roast nowaday are what I'd call a thich steak (1 1/2- 2 inches, and lamb 
used to be defined as still (at least partially) nursing, but now is sold at 
about 6 months, which is about as old as it can get before it gets the 
strong, muttony taste that many people dislike.
