Definitely vague, since I was taught to solder using oxy-acet ;-)
Some definitions can be pretty variable, even though there may have, at one
point a fixed dividing line. For example, the dividing line between sheet
metal and plate metal is definite, but for most of us,, we can get by with
describing thick sheet, or thin plate, when we need metal in that border
area. I run into it in cooking, too- many things that the marketers describe
as a roast nowaday are what I'd call a thich steak (1 1/2- 2 inches, and lamb
used to be defined as still (at least partially) nursing, but now is sold at
about 6 months, which is about as old as it can get before it gets the
strong, muttony taste that many people dislike.
