[TheForge] Candle cups

Hi Walt,
I've done exactly the same only using 2mm sheet metal for the cup and
20 x 2mm piping (tube).
I spread the pipe on the end of the horn of the anvil (gently) until I
had a nice flared end. Keep in mind when doing this you will need to
rotate the pipe as you tap the end, to make sure the flaring is even
and not like an oval. I also heated the end of the pipe in the forge
to avoid the possibility of splitting the pipe at it's seam.
The whole process is quite fast and I made six candle sticks in an
hour. The biggest problem I faced was welding the little pieces of
pipe onto the cup. I didn't want to braze as the colour would have
been different.. I wanted to weld. Oxy / Acet was impossible as I
wanted the weld to be hidden. Welding inside a short piece of pipe
with the end closed is not easy. I cheated and resorted to a couple of
well placed spot welds joining the pieces together using the MIG.
I'm sure you will have no problem using brass, however the method of
flaring the end may be different and I have limited experience using
brass piping. There may be some brass specialists out there that can
help you.
