The wife makes a good "living" at side work sewing on the old Singer that
used to be my Grandmother's machine.  It's the first electric Singer made.
She takes it in for a tune-up about once a year and has no problem with
getting parts.

Some businesses (like hammering) still use the same tools<G>.
