So: lose the incredibly powerful software that you can exploit fully
only after a year's training a 3 years of practice.  KISS: Get a 4B
pencil.

Project the photo-quality image on 11x14 drawing paper.  Sketch over
the projected image in a style you like.

Or print the image as large as you can, put tracing paper over it
(light table optional) and sketch.

Either of the above but trace desired outlines with a hard pencil.
Remove to a more comfortable position and work out the sketch with
soft pencil, conte crayon, charcoal or your favorite medium.

Scan the sketches back into your computer if you need a digital
image.

I've used the Corel Draw trace-around-the-edges function and found it
more bother than it was worth.

I've used variations of the above-suggested method and had good
results.
