Well if you shoot it relatively straight up, it will eventually reach zero 
velocity.  Then it will fall down accelerating at 32f/s(squared) until air 
resistance causes it to reach terminal velocity.  And terminal velocity 
depends on the mass and shape of the object.  A streamlined dart weighing 
5 pounds is going to have a very high terminal velocity.  A ball 20 feet 
across weighing 5 pounds will have a very low terminal velocity.  Which 
one would you stand under? (retorical question)
