For what it is worth,
I used to get head aches from the fluorescent bulbs in my shop and stores.

It was suggested that I put one incandescent bulb in my workspace and 
shop during daylight hours.
Headaches went away. I can still hear the fluorescents but that is 
another issue.

It seems that the fluorescents are actually off sixty times a second. 
You can't comprehend it , but you do see it.
The incandescent element doesn't  flicker so my head doesn't have to 
make up for the strobe effect. .
The sunlight filtering in from those distant store windows has the same 
effect.

For some reason fluorescents also seem to darken my photo gray glasses.
