Go get three harbor freight 4 1/2 inch grinders. They are on sale for 19
dollars all the time. Set one up for grinding one with a flap sander and
one with a cutting blade. With the 10 blade assortment pack you will have
about 75 dollars into the project. I have owned my HF grinder for about two
years and it is used in just about every project I do. HF also has an
inexpensive hand held belt sander if you still need a large surface to
smooth. I would use the grinder to do the large removal on the anvil and
then finer grades on the flap sander. Or just the flap sander to see how
much you need to take off.

Just my 2 cent worth.

Good point. Unless you're doing a very light dressing, I would not
use
a belt sander.
