      Thanks for all the good ideas.I decided to install the fan at ceiling 
height in the arm of a Y pipe.I do have an overhead hood and wanted to raise 
it a bit higher rather than closer to the fire,so i think this will be 
fine.I also have a 12 inch cast iron floor vent with adjustable flaps  in 
the wall beside the forge so this should take care of the negative pressure 
and if not i have a two foot floor vent waiting in the wings(thank god for 
junk days eh Mike).
