[TheForge] flue pipe temperatures

I take it this is an overhead hood, not a side-draft hood?

If so, try this and save yourself some trouble. Add a removable extension pipe down closer to your fire - maybe 6 to 8 inches above the fire. Now, if your flue is at all decent, you should get the draw you need without the inducer.

Of course, you need a tall enough flue, especially if you have any elbows in it. Without elbows, a 12' flue is plenty. There's some rule of thumb about how much extra you need per elbow, but I don't remember it.

A flue is one of the simplest "engines" around. It only makes sense to take full advantage of it.

Wise sages
Would anyone have a guesstimate as to the temperature in an 8 inch
flue pipe coming from a smoke hood mounted 16 inches directly above the
fire during a forge welding session? Why the hel?? would anyone care you
say?I dont have quite enough draft and rather than installing a bigger pipe
i picked up a used draft inducer fan which recommends no more than 600
degrees F.
