Chuck,
Happily, I was mistaken. Gold deposits on lenses ended up being quite
straightforward:
(1) They are found predominantly on plastic because they do not adhere
easily to glass.
(2) They give any filter they are used on an blue green cast because of the
way they cut through the visible spectrum.
(3) They are just about the most perfect IR blocker conceivable, extending
their protection clear out to 10,000nm; more than three times farther than
the most conservative estimate of the ocular range.
So, it turned out to be as simple as "one, two, three."
