Build a torsion box. Strong as the dickens, for any given thickness.
A lot of work, but the results are very good. You could use 3/4" square
tube for the internal structure and skin it with 14 ga. sheet. It's a
LOT of welding, but may be worth it if peoples' legs are going to be
under that granite top. Stuff will be put on top and people will lean
on it and perhaps even sit on it. I'd over engineer it.
