Trees worried me when I was first learning to fly, too. One day my instructor told me that this was the day I was going to approach the airport and land the plane without any coaching from him. (He had always talked me through the steps on previous landings.) So, there I was, merrily cruising toward the airport at TPA, making my radio calls to the tower, and feeling pretty good, cleared for a straight in landing. Just as I crossed the threshold, the instructor calmly picked up the mike and requested a go-around. Then he turned to me and calmly said, "Aubrey, in order to land you have to get close to the ground." I looked at the altimeter and I was still at TPA as I crossed the middle of the runway below....
