[TheForge] OT Learning to Fly as opposed to blacksmithing

Pilots do have an "air" of superiority; above everyone else...Arc, arc But
when you're poor, it takes some luck and a lot of conniving to get a license
and fly cheap- it was easier in the '60's. Anyone with a bit of imagination,
personality and desire can get into blacksmithing cheap and get a hellova
lot of instruction free.

When I started flying in the fall of 1968 we had a 7AC Aeronca Champ that
flew "wet" -with gas and oil- for $5 an hour. I got my private licence in
1969. I pretty much stopped flying about 1981 after our 3rd child was
born. Next spring we will be empty nesters. <grins>
I rejoined the EAA in 2005, and bought someone's partially built VW
powered "project". Now my KR2 airplane is parked in a corner of my
quonset.. about 10 feet from my gas forge and anvil.
If you join a local chapter odds are that there are older club members
that love flying, but have lost their medicals have a nearly completed
project, or even better, one that has gotten it's N- number. I wish that
I had gotten one that was already air-worthy. I bought mine on
barnstormers.com and trailered it over 1,000 miles home. It was after
that that I joined the local EAA chapter, and learned that there were more
local planes and "plane projects" for sale <big stupid grin>.
