[TheForge] OT Learning to Fly

In 1959 the Piper dealer at Toledo Express airport was giving flying
lessons using Tripacers. They offered a garanteed solo for $75.00 and
garanteed private for $350.00. I managed to find $75 but could not come up
with $350 - bad decision. I soloed in 6 hours and had about 30 hours before
family and other obligations had higher prioritys. I regretfully gave it up
in 1967. Still never pass up a chance to go up.

Runway behind you, altitude above you, fuel in the pump on the apron.

My Ground School Instructor told us only one thing makes an airplane fly:
Money.

With enough money, you can buy enough technology to fly a brick -- as
witness the F117, the B2, the F101 Voodoo, etc.

One of the greater disappointments in my life: I took the Ground School at
Kent State because I needed a few technology hours for electives. I got an
"A" and couldn't afford the $800 for flight school. Now that's missing out
on a bargain! GRRRRRR! :)

Our final was the FAA written: I got a 92. I'm still proud of that because I
did it with a borrowed flight computer and no books -- and I didn't miss any
of the navigation questions.

So why do I get lost on the ground so much? :)
