[TheForge] big digger OT

I sometimes wonder when I see "engineering marvels" like this if that's
not ALL they are. "Mine is bigger than yours" syndrome. I KNOW that's
the case with some architects who always want to build bigger and bigger
buildings.

Makes me wonder whether the REAL reason al queda targetted the WTC was
because they couldn't stand the thought of America having not one, but
two phallic symbols bigger than any they had!

Seriously, though, I wonder whether the same job that is accomplished
by one big machine couldn't be as well accomplished by several smaller
ones - with the advantage that it's no big deal if one small one breaks
down for a while.

I thought when I was younger that I saw the Gem of Egypt near Coshocton
but I see on this site that the Gem was a sister to the Silver Spade and
was near Barnsville. http://www.stripmine.org/gem_01.htm

Jerry, was it the Muskie that crossed 77 20-30 years ago?

Bob,

I live in the area where this was a common site, now
we have a freeway markers, where the Big Muskie Bucket
is now parked and historical societies trying to buy
the last of the big beasts. The problem is with the
historical societies have no money and the scrap value
is very good at this point.

Where people say there are from BFE, well I live 20
miles further away, south of Egypt Valley.

Jerry
