Problem solved. I'd forgotten that this computer has a problem with some 
videos. I've tried reinstalling some of the video stuff, no dice. I used 
to follow what was going on with these machines--back when it was DOS, 
like you.

So what I did was switch to my work laptop. Video ran fine.
