Sounds hokey, but maybe the story is mixed up with the Tarpon Springs sponge
divers who didn't know or disregarded the decompression tables. They got the
bends so many times their bodies were all gnarled up, but when they went
back down in deep water they felt good and had full freedom of movement.
Anyway, I hope my good friend is listening - er- reading this...
