[TheForge] Any recommendations on cutoff saws? Brands, etc?

I'll second that Frosty. I'd think you could scare up the parts for a 
phase converter pretty easily. Advice available from several on this 
list, myself included.

The alternative is a VFD, which you might find a 3HP for under $200 on ebay.
