What type of solder are you using, low temp silver bearing 460 F ?
Or easy silver brazing type 1100-1200 F
Hi Jim; Thanks for the response. Using easy solver brazing 1100-1200
? Flux for lead soldering is absolutely no good for brazing it is basically
a hydrochloric acid salt like zinc chloride.
OK. I will confine the Stay Clean to only lead soldering
Ready flux is for brazing (1100-1700 F active range. StayClean is for low
temp work using tin silver or lead tin solders. So from your results I am
guessing that you are brazing with easy silver filler alloy.
Correct but then should the Ready Flux have worked ok
You will find that if you use one of the boron modified fluxes like Handy
B-1
or any other "Black" flux that your brazing of stainless will be much
easier to do.
So are you suggesting that I am really brazing when I use the Easy silver
solder? The Ready flux is liquid and says nothing on the container except dont
drink it. The Ultra Flux, that seemed to work well, says it is a "water based
paste consisting of potassium, salts of fluorine and boron. Based on your
comments, that appears to be the stuff I should use for the rest of the
stainless brazing (soldering?)
Thanks, Jim, much appreciated. I guess I did not appreciate the importance
of the fluxing role in some of these things
