[TheForge] Soldering Stainless- or welding

Mark,
Definitely not; both the wife (who loves beer) and I are fighting the battle
of the bulge. Your hobby would amount to a disaster in our family :-)

I simply ran across the reference during my on-line research of filler rods
and techniques. I favor beginning my product studies using the Web for an
overview, than writing to the more legitimate companies involved and testing
their products to separate the wheat from the chaff. This method is
expensive and time-consuming due to the sheer amount of hype out there, but
is also more inclusive, tending to unearth answers where I didn't even know
there were questions. The vision enhancement article in The Hammer's Blow
was condensed from part of a book chapter that wouldn't even have been
written without the kind of serendipity Web research fosters.

I recently made a break-through aluminum filler alloy discovery, after
months of frustration, by simply changing the input terminology. It turns
out that most of the so called miracle aluminum solder alloys are simply Ney
Metals "Ney 380" repackaged and sold for outrageous prices, just like the
so-called silver solder sold by jewelers supply outfits are nothing more
than short lengths of standard silver braze wire, snipped from standard
reasonably priced spools, and then sold in plastic baggies-for outrageous
prices. Drug dealers have nothing on these guys, and it's all legal to boot!

Mikey

(Google home-built beer making equipment for a quick introduction to the
subject, but you will find lots more-if you have the time to look-as
warnings attached to various SS oxy-fuel filler rods)

You home brew Mike?

I just finished 2 batches...10 gallons. First 5 gallons is a Bluberry
American Wheat and the 2nd 5 Gallons is an American IPA. But I think
that it tastes closer to a Hennepin.

Mark
