I never could understand long cords.
My power tools are almost always on the end of an extension cord anyway.

I have a few that I have shortened the cords to under a foot. It reduces
the jumble in the tool bin.

As to the cheaper tools I am a user. Theft is a player among other things.
If I actually keep one for two years it owes me nothing at all. My
dewalt grinder which I use regularly is on its third year.
My Makita drills are 5 and 2 years and have survived two story drops
onto concrete. Who could ask for more?

My lat Milwaukee drill was a week old when it fell about ten feet and
cracked the handle. I took it in , to the factory store here in
MILWAUKEE and was told it was a non stock , obsolete handle and I should
buy a new drill. When I pointed out that it WAS a new drill that I had
purchased there the idiot just shrugged and said the damage was due to
misuse and was not covered.
I knew that. I wanted to buy a new handle, still no luck.

For the cost of a new drill I went out and bought a Makita VSR drill, a
Makita 3" hand held circle saw ( really handy for trimming cedar shakes)
and went to lunch.
I still have the saw, the drill got stolen about five years ago, after
having served me well. The lunch has long since reentered the food
chain. <G>
