Ron: I have a porta band from the time plastic cases
were just being put on the market and it's as tough as
the all aluminum models. It's got to be at least 20
years old though so it has no bearing on what's being
sold now.
Replace the guide bearings. I don't even look in the
parts book for the guide bearings and rolls for my
bandsaws. I take them to the local bearing and drive
train supplier, AK. Bearing or OBESCO and buy off the
shelf for about 25% the replacement "part" price.

it ain't real.
Wrought iron is.

I have an ancient Milwaukee hand-held aluminum cased
band saw that needs the
blade guide bearings or cam followers. It was suggested
I buy a new one but
those new genuine imitation plastic things just don't
seen to be as heavy
duty. I just can't reconcile divorcing old faithful for
$20.00 worth of
bearings. Are the newer ones any good?
