Rob, the bricks should be ok for a hearth on a coal forge after they get a
fresh water soak and sit in the sun a week or so, but I wouldn't use them in
a gas forge. When @ where did the barge go down? It might be a good place to
catch fish.
If the anvil is cast iron you may have a real problem. Is it a steel face?
What brand is it? If you have a good welder you may be able to salvage it.
I've done it, but if you have to pay a welding and machine shop it probably
isn't worth it. Tell us more about the anvil.

Hello to all. I have enjoyed reading the vast array of topics and
information. Here's my first posting.
I have a 192# anvil I picked up in NH a few years back. There are a
few large chips broken out of the face and a very dull horn. What is
the correct way to repair this?
Also, I picked up about a third of a pallet of firebrick from the
inside of a sunken barge. They were in salt water for for a long time
but they don't seem to be mushy or tender whey they're dry. Might
there be an issue of the residual salt or moisture?
Thanks for the help,
Rob Hill
