Hi Phlip;
Sounds like you've already researched this, but there is a book
called 'China at Work' by Rudolf Hommel and re-published by the M.I.T.
Press, Cambridge, Mass., in 1969 (originally published in 1937) that has
illustrations and photos of box bellows. Apparently more efficient than
a Japanese box bellows as it comes closer to a continuous flow of air.
Also many other ingenious Chinese tools smithing and otherwise.
The book also says there is (or was) one on display, made in 1924)
at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, PA.
Just thought you might want to know.
