Here in washing ton you can get a certificate of lost title.  If the seller/
gifter signs it a new title is issued.  If not after five years you can get
a title.  Talk to your local DMV

You might have to get a salvage title.  not sure how it all works with 
trailers.  Good luck and congrats.
