Glad you found a place with the stock size, however here's my $0.03:
In this age of machined, die stamped & 'scroll' jig bent pottery barn
items I almost always make it a point to alter the section of the
stock I use in projects just so it doesn't match a standard size.
Wether it's cold chamfering the corners of curtain rod stock in a
hyd. press or making a reversed ogee moulding section by hammering
3/4" sq into a die under the powerhammer the irregularities are what
sets our work apart from the bulk produced thingamajigs. It really
dosen't take that long. On saturday I ran 30' of 3/8" sq through a
die to make 1/2" half-round in about an hour. The edges of that bar
where it pinched a little flash out are the part that the customer
liked best.
