Wait, why bother having them straighten it out? Perhaps you could just have
them shape it to the form you want and then weld it in place! NO! even
better, find a local immigrant of any variety or legality to weld it in for
you... yeah, that's the ticket... make 500K of them and put them in the
Pottery Barn or Pier One, hobnob with Oprah, Trump, Gates... yeah, that's
the ticket ;)
Or, didn't Yellin (SamnotClaire) have some comment to architects about
providing the general design idea and letting the smith fill in the details.
Fire the architect, or make her sleep on the couch (that'll happen) and use
the next convenient sized stock hammered to dimension in an irregular
pattern just to show the world we're blacksmiths, not machinists! Power to
variable bifocal... yeah, that's the ticket!
Kevin [farrier/blacksmith, ain't no stinkin' machinist, I can make most
things fit (or stand still)with a 4# hammer- some call it friendly
persuasion] D.

Maybe what you should do is to call a general metal shop or local metal
dealer and have them cut you some 7/16 plate to the size you need and then
flatten it, since it will twist in the shear.
