Done. It *is* better. It's good I have this don't care what it looks
like, purely functional job to learn on. Built a nice little cart so
I don't have to lug welder and tank around the yard.
Still don't quite have the hang of getting nice-looking welds on thin
-- less than 16 ga -- material but I'm getting better. Tacking works
fine but on continuous welds I either burn through or get globby
beads. I think maybe I need a magnifier for the shield.

Same. Was a good time. So you'll just have to plan a visit without a
big party as an inducement. Right now is when you should be here:
best year for sweet corn we've ever had, lots of tomatoes, basil.
Getting OT here: Every ear of corn has an earwig nestled down in the
outer husk, exposed when we break the ear off the stalk. But *NO* ear
worms. Never had wearwigs in the corn before, always had something
like 80% with ear worms. Is it possible that the earwigs are eating
the moth larvae before they get big enough to attack the corn? Dunno,
but it sure is nice. Go, earwigs.
And if the myth is true that the height above ground that wasps build
their nests foretells the severity of the coming winter, we're in for
a whiz-bang. Big wasp nest under the dormer eaves of the shop, about
18' up. Yow!
