Stephen, I'm from the US, but worked on a ship in Lousianna a few years ago
with these fellows who'd been thru the Danish apprentice programs. Kind of
late for me to go thru an apprenticship .......as I'm 53 now and have been
doing metalwork for 43 years......... (Hard to teach an old dog new tricks -
especially a self taught one). So further information on programs is not
really a direction I head in. :-)
I really enjoyed working with the Danish guys in their late 20's......very
focused and talented.
Ralph

Hi Chuck and thanks for the additional title to add to my already
lengthy reading list. :o)
Ralph, I can not say if Finland has the same apprenticeship programmes
as Denmark has as I have no idea what you have there.. but yes we do
have a solid programme here, infact I was just speaking about it today
at the Taideseppä Ry Exhibition in Helsinki. There is a course leading
into the examination itself. There was a small exhibit showing the
potential apprentices work. Some real impressive stuff there I can
tell you. The small town is called Karjaa (Karis in Swedish) and is
about 70 or so km's from Helsinki. You can of course avoid the classes
and just attend the 3 day examination.. but personally I think it best
to take the course. This is apparently one of the many places here in
Finland that conduct these preparation courses and has a good
reputation from what I hear. If I can find some more information
regarding this I'll post it here.
OH BTW Ries if you are reading this.. a big hello from Jouko
Nieminen.. we chatted for quite a while today. Nice guy.
