     I can speak from experience about wearing polyester pants while 
forging.
I had cut off the end of a 1/2" rod and was more concerned where the end
piece went than where the hot end of the piece in my hand was. It touched
my pant leg and melted the material onto the skin. I accepted the painful
burn, but the following infection was no fun at all.
    I definitely do not recommend this practice what-so-ever.
