WOW what a response...

First I should say hi to you all...Frosty, Mike, Rick, Bruce, Dave,
Ron, Ries and Chuck and thank you all for such a downpour of
information. You all brought a large smile to my face.. You all jumped
in and very protectively wanted to place me on the right path. That
above all made me feel welcome. I suppose I should make at least one
thing clear and that is I mentioned that The Art of Blacksmithing was
an inspiration for me to work more traditionally. I have found it
frustrating that although the information seems to be there, detailed
technique is lacking. Not to mention that all the measurements are in
imperial and not metric.

I thank you all for the links, advice and book references.. I now have
plenty of information at my fingertips. It has been incredibly
annoying not being able to find books in English (or Finnish for that
matter) about blacksmithing. Almost everything you can find is based
on the Finnish 'Puukko' or the Swedish 'Knivar' (or in English The
Knife). Believe me there is more than enough Knifer Makers (Cutlers)
here in Finland, I'm sure they don't want anymore. That's not to say
that I am not interested in making them.. just not my main focus.

Someone asked how an Australian ends up in Finland.. as we expats
refer to it.. I am "A victim of love". Yep Married to a lovely
Finnish Psycologist.. and father to 6 year old twins. Tristan and
Emilia. I suppose more kids are in the wind only we are terrifed that
we will have more twins or triplets :oP.. Our fear is justified as my
two younger brothers also have twins.. We have the full set.. Boy /
Girl, Boy / Boy and Girl / Girl.. It must be the Italian blood in the
family.

Dave, regarding my bouncing E-mails, It was the nervous kangaroo in
me..hehehe nah I was sending in Rich formatting but have now decided
to send only in plain text formatting.. that for now seems to have
sorted the problem. But I will send any questions to you if anymore
boomerang themselves back to me.

Ries, Jouko Nieminen is known to me (not personally) here is is web
page www.rauta-aika.com I might seem him on Sunday as i am heading
into Helsinki to the Taideseppä Ry:n Messut.. and for those who don't
speak Finnish ( ArtistBlacksmith Association's Fair).. They have
rented out the old rope factory for a combination exhibition / market
for this weekend. So a lot of Finnish blackies* will be there.
(*Blackies is not a derogative term for Australian Aboriginals.. it is
a term of endearment for and Australian Blacksmith.. just thought i'd
make that clear)

OK I don't want to wear my welcome out with a lot of dribble.. so
Again thanks to all and I look forward to taking part in this e-mail
group.

Moikka
Stephen
