In my opinion almost ANY other beginners book on blacksmithing is better than Bealer's book, "The Art of Blacksmithing." Bealer's writing was inspirational to a lot of people, but he ran a bit loose on the facts. Treat it as a good read, then look for facts elsewhere.

There are now many books available, not just Jack Andrews', "The Edge Of The Anvil" and "The New Edge Of The Anvil" (both good books). Do a search on amazon.com for "blacksmithing". Get back to us with questions before spending a lot of money. You're SURE to get opinons back from THIS group!

Hello Stephen and welcome -

I like "The Art Of Blacksmithing" also, but in my opinion a much better
book is the "New Edge Of The Anvil". If you can get hold of that book, I
think it is a much better teacher than the other book. With many charts and
pictures, it really tells a guy how to get things done properly.

Best of Luck and we'll be expecting to hear good things from you
occasionally,

Hi Mike,
Well I live on the south west coast of Finland in a small city called
Turku. Actually we had the tall ships race here not so long ago..
(reference to your e-mail address).

That's pretty much it in a big nutshell. I can tell you more when I
find out more :o)

If and when I have interesting projects on the go I will post
photographs online and email the link here.

Stephen
