Sort of like Goldfinger and his solid gold Rolls.
Anyway, trying to harden the anvil would have had little effect on it  except 
for burning off the paint.  Also something would have set the anvil  apart 
other than its lack of ring; Platinum has a density of .79 #'s /  in^3.  Iron is 
only about .28.  The anvil would have been about three  times as heavy for 
its size.  Platinum melts about 3100*F and it does not  oxidize appreciably at 
that temperature.  I know of a refiner that could  turn it back into a 
marketable form.
