The least complicated method is to attach one end of the spring to the hinge
side of the gate and the other to the fence. Should only take one spring and
can be placed at any point on the gate / fence junct. Least noticeable if
placed low if concerned about hiding the spring it can shielded from direct
view by placing a bit of channel steel in the gate and opposite fence bolt
the spring in the channel then make a cover to attach over the pieces of
channel. Not as noticeable if built into the fence/gate rather than attached
to the fence/gate.
Time enough for sleep in the grave.
