It's been more than 30 years ago since Dad and I wired a horse trailer but 
the last time I looked there were several "standard" codes. As I recall 
though, a flat four is standard for small trailers as Lance says.

We used to use round 5 (also round) prong, plugs so there was a place for a 
positive ground and brakes if necessary.
