I don't think Dave Brown will mind me posting this message.  My comment 
about him got forward to Dave and he reply to me as follows.

I was experimenting with using waste oils (vegetable and petroleum ... ATF
burns great) and a Babington burner (like I use to heat the shop
now).  Reason was there there's no need to filter any finer than a door
screen.  I see no point in using biodiesel for anything other than running
a diesel engine, certainly not for firing a furnace/forge.

As for Reis' comments on biodiesel ... well he's pretty much right.
