Bob, It was reported to me that the Metal Museum was not able to buy
even a single thing with the
$3,000 that they collected. Here is a quote form an e-mail from Jim
Wallace, director of the Metal Museum............

Turns out we did not get anything from the Sorber Auction. Everything
went very, very high (often three times the estimated high), and Richard
felt they were way out of line. He only got two lots for himself, and
one of those was because it was miss labeled. Several lots I had
specified as of interest and told him we would go 200 or so over the
high estimate went for a thousand more .
Maybe I should have told him to buy anyway, but he has very reluctant to
spend on over priced stuff.

the "Riuchard" that he referrs to is, Richard Watennmaker (Director,
Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution-retired) was bidding
from the Museum.
