Yep. Bought a little farm in a place called Kamloops BC. My pretty
young wife wants to raise goats and make cheese, I want to figure out a
way to make a living doing something other than flying a desk and
trying to sound like I give a darn about the intricate web of fragile
egos and dodged responsibility that is the world of government
contracting. I prefer metal and cars and being outside, although by the
sounds of it that's at best a pleasant road to poverty. Mostly I don't
want to raise my kids (shhh--we're not sure if it took yet) among the
gangs and pretension of this silly place. (Telling, though, that we're
trying to have our first this year when we can still take advantage of
corporately sponsored for-profit health care--oooh, I'm so disloyal).
I've been talking about doing this for ten years, the farm came
available at about the same time the family became a possibility, so
it's time for a career change. Not a minute too soon.
And thanks to you all, I won't try to get there in a schoolbus or a big
green truck. Well, not more than one. Gotta bring the Unimog.
I wonder what customs will think of a collection of old cars, a unimog,
all the machinery, a couple of anvils, a whole buncha hammers and, um,
sir, why do you have all these old guns?!?
I'm Canadian, really. Not exactly a redneck--wrong politics, too much
time in school. I just like metal stuff.
