.......yeah know....... I almost hate to admit this, but I was standing
there one day with four of these really thick 0 rings that I'd just taken
out of some hydraulic flanges, and turned to the guy that I was working with
and said "Here, I'll put these someplace obvious where I won't forget where
these things are in case I need 'em later". When I saw how cool it worked
for cushion and non pinch - I instantly put one on the other end!
It was a moment of pure ignorance - that developed into sheer genius - but
it took me a minute to realize it of course. I think that's one of those
things your supposed to NOT tell anyone - but I thought I'd share that with
you cuz you come out with some beaut's. :-)
Of course the guy I was working with was trying to tell me to throw them
out - cuz they were "old O rings and you didn't want to risk using them and
ending up with a hydraulic leak some day"........ then it dawned on him at
about the same time as it did me, when he saw what it did to the vice handle
and he started going on about "Hey, what are you going to do with those
other two o-rings"........... so being the accomadating guy I am, I
immediately told him how much these were a risk to keep around the shop and
I was gonna throw them out (fully agreeing with his point) - now knowing it
was a great idea and he wanted the other two for his vice! I think this
qualified for one of those rare and treasured moments in the shop when
ignorance turns to bliss - and a friends critical comments turn to envy and
things just kinda come around full circle........... real SMOOTH like. :-)
Ralph (who stumbles on more good ideas than he comes up with)
