Geez....and I thought you guys had experience!
Cut a washer from a piece of inner tube that will stretch over the ends 
of the vise handle and hold in place.
I have never been pinched, and when letting go of the handle in a 
vertical position, it thumps quietly into place.
1¼" square piece of tube (or so) with a diagonal slit that will stretch 
over knobs on ends.
